Project completed by Path21 architect John Menno Nap while at Perkins+Will Dallas. Gulf Coast Medical Center was the planned consolidation of two facilities in Ft. Myers, FL. It involved constructing a new facility around an existing three story facility. The new facility now houses 229 patient bed spaces, 22 Operating rooms, a larger replacement ED, new imaging department, pre/post Op, admitting registration and pre-admissions spaces. The current four story building is designed for three future floors totaling approximately 200,000 SF of building as well as horizontal growth of approximately 150,000 SF. It was designed with the harsh hurricane environments in mind and has many key design features to allow the facility to sustain major storms without failure including an elevated central plant that can maintain systems even in the event of a flood. This project was initiated and designed for one owner and then sold to the final client. The efforts of the design team were particularly key in managing the new client changes to the design while the construction process continued.
